1.0 Welcome and Sign In This Website Guide was created to help users take full advantage of all Sierra Canyon website features.
This guide will help users:
  1. Sign In
  2. Sign Out
  3. Navigate through the site

Important Note: This is your website and you can help make it better. You may have a new idea or feature you would like to see on the website. You may have a question as to why things are done a certain way. All suggestions, questions and comments are welcomed. Please report any errors, inaccurate information or problems encountered while trying to access or use the Sierra Canyon website to Webmaster.

1.1 Sign In
To launch the Sierra Canyon website open a browser like Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox or Apple's Safari.
Enter the Sierra Canyon web page address:

New Users must Sign Up to use the site
  1. Click here circle 1 to Sign Up
  2. Enter the required information
  3. You are now signed up. On return visits follow the Sign In steps below.
Sign In – Each time you return to the website you need to sign in. From the Welcome page click Sign In which is found in the upper-right corner of the website circle 1 or click on the square image found on the left. circle 1

  1. Enter your Sign In Name and Password in the designated fields circle 1
  2. Check the box next to Remember my sign in name and password circle 1 … if you would like that information stored on your computer
  3. Click Sign In circle 1 or press the "Enter" key on your keyboard
  4. If you do not remember your sign in name and/or password click Forgotten sign in and password under Forgot Your Password? You will be prompted to enter your email address. If a match is found your sign in name and password will be emailed to you. circle 1

2.2 Top Menu The Top Menu, found in the upper-right corner of the website, enables a user to:
  1. Edit Profile
  2. Sign Out

2.3 Alert bar
An alert bar is shown immediately above the main menu. Important community alerts may be displayed in this area from time to time. When a user positions their cursor over this alert and an underline appears, a new window will open containing more detailed information after left-clicking on the alert.

3.0 Main Menu Features

3.1 Home The home page provides the user with an overview of the community’s latest happenings. Each section provides links to the displayed information. The user can view the following information:
  1. My account – From this area you can Edit Profile information and edit your Sign In information. From this area you can also update your Subscriptions by selecting the Subscriptions tab and then clicking Edit Communication Preferences, found below the Subscribed and Not Subscribed lists.

  4. Weather
  5. Latest messages

3.2 Community Information for and about the Community of Sierra Canyon. Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click the desired drop down menu item.

This grouping has information about members, scheduled meetings and additional items of interest for the Community's Committees. Position your cursor over the Committees item then move to the right and click on the desired Committee.

3.2.2 Community Documents
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click on Community Documents. These documents include Financial Statements, Board of Directors Meeting Minutes, Useful Forms, Governing Documents and Frequently Asked Questions about these documents. The Governing Documents includes CC&Rs, Rules and Regulations, Bylaws, etc.

3.2.3 Del Webb Sales for Sierra Canyon
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click on Del Webb Sales for Sierra Canyon. This is Del Webb's sale's page for Sierra Canyon Reno. This website lists available models and prices at Sierra Canyon. There is additional information about Sierra Canyon, and links to other Del Webb sites.

3.2.4 Discussion Groups
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click on Discussion Groups. Sierra Canyon residents use the word “Groups” to mean things like Golf, Hiking, Ladies Lunch, etc. However, this is not what the word means in Discussion Groups. Discussion Groups are similar to Message Boards. We have no control over the phrase Discussion Groups, if we did we would have changed it to Message Board.
NOTE: ALL Discussion Primary and Sub-Topics will be removed after 30 days.

Below are instructions on how to participate in Discussion Groups.

Select a discussion group and click View which will take you to the discussion page for the selected discussion group.

Click the desired Topic from the list to view the topics posts.

From this page you can Reply circle 1 to previous posts, Email Author circle 1 of the post or create a New Topic circle 1 .

3.2.5 Links plus, ... Around Reno
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click on Links plus, ... Around Reno. Links for Sierra Canyon Residents has four sections
  1. What's Going On Around Reno Events guide for tourist and residents in Reno's local neighborhoods and the Reno/Tahoe area.
  2. Sierra Canyon Information about the Aspen Lodge, Somersett and Del Webb.
  3. Useful Information Emergency numbers, gas prices, I-80 web-cams, tourist map and UNR Seismological lab.
  4. Reno and Nevada DMV, library, City of Reno, Welcome site, Chamber of Commerce.

3.2.6 Maps
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click on Maps. There are a Trail and Land Use maps of Sierra Canyon. There are individual maps of each Village from 1 to 9.

3.2.7 News and Announcements
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click New and Announcements from the drop down menu. These news and announcements of special interest to the residents of Sierra Canyon. The most recent item is at the top of the list.

3.2.8 Photo Gallery
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click Photo Gallery from the drop down menu. Select a Category (for example, Billiards) to view albums within that category. The Photo Gallery is arranged in categories. Each Resident Group has it's own category. There is also a category for Community photos. The categories are listed alphabetically. Within each category there are albums of the particular group or Community event.

3.2.9 Photos (Hiking and Downhill Skiing)
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click Photos (Hiking and Downhill Skiing) from the drop down menu.
Photos (Hiking and Downhill Skiing) is similar to Photo Gallery. The reason for an extra photo gallery is that as of  October 1, 2009 there over 4000 photos in 175 albums in this gallery. The photo galleries are easier to manage when they are separate.

There are only four categories.
  1. Hiking 2009
  2. Hiking 2008
  3. Hiking 2007
  4. Downhill Skiing
The albums are listed chronologically with the most recent being the first.

3.2.10 Resident Directory
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click Resident Directory from the drop down menu to display the resident directory. An alphabetical list of residents is displayed.

You can search the directory for a specific entry or a group of entries. Here are some examples:
  1. To search for a specific entry type the search text into the Search Criteria box (ex. Burns). All entries containing the text Burns will be displayed.
  2. To search for all people that live on Cliff Park Way or Cliff Park Court type street=Cliff Park in the Search Criteria box.
  3. To search for all people whose first or last name starts with Ke type name=ke in the Search Criteria box.
  1. To search for all people located in Village 6 type Village 06 in the Search Criteria box.
  2. Select Advanced Search and fill in the specific search criteria for your search.
  3. To search for people whose first name begins with a specific letter select that letter from the A|B|C|D|E|F… control.

3.2.11 Videos
Position your cursor over the Community main menu item then click Videos from the drop down menu. This is a sample listing of  videos that were made by Sierra Canyon residents. More of the past videos maybe added to this list sometime in the future. In the future, the most recent videos will be found at the top of the list.

3.3 Calendar
The Calendar section of the website allows users to access the community calendar and to search the site for specific events. Position your cursor over the Calendar main menu item then click the desired drop down menu item.

There are five categories that are colored. circle 1 They are:
  1. Association Events (example Village Challenge)
  2. Resident Events (example Wii League - Bowling)
  3. Group Events (example Canyon Nine Golf)
  4. Fitness Classes (example Tai Chi)
  5. Board and Committees (example Architectural Review Committee)
Past and future events can be seen by selecting the Month and Year circle 1 If only one category is of interest, it can be selected here circle 1 by clicking on the downward pointing arrow. A Printable Version of the Calendar is availablecircle 1.

The Printable Version is in black and white, not in color. Each entry begins with the time of the entry. All categories can be printed on the same calendar or separate categories can be printed individually.

At the bottom of the Calendar there is a long list of Upcoming Events circle 1 . The Month, Week or Day view can be chosen here circle 1 .

3.3.1 Somersett Calendar of Events

3.4 Groups
The groups section of the website allows users to access all of the community group pages. Position your cursor over the Groups main menu item then position your cursor over the alphabetic group menu item (ex. Groups A-F) and then click the desired group from the menu. If you click Groups on the main menu a summary of all groups is displayed. Below is the template used for the Group homepages.

An effort has been to keep the Group homepages relatively uniform and consistant.
circle 1 This is the Group name or identifier.
circle 1 This section provides contact and schedule information.
circle 1 This section has links to items of possible interest to the Group and others.
circle 1 This is a image or an icon relating to the Group.
circle 1 This section can be almost anything the Group wants. It may have a description, additional information, photos, tables, etc.

3.4.1 Groups Full List
This is an alphabetical listing of all the groups. The name, schedule and group contact are given. A particular group's homepage can be accessed by clicking on the name of the group.

3.4.2 Application for New Group
The Sierra Canyon Resident Group Requirements need to reviewed, understood and agreed to before applying for a New Group.
The Group Requirements and Application for New Group are on the Group's drop down menu.

3.4.3 Membership in a Group.
To join a group, subscribe to the Groups Distribution List. The Distribution List acts as the Group Membership List. Once you subscribe you will be able to receive Group emails from the Group Administrator  Below are the instructions for subscribing to a Distribution List.

Click
on Home on the navigation bar. Home is at the extreme left. The image above will show part of the web page that comes up. Click on the Edit My Profile .

Click on Edit as shown on the above image.

Move down the page that comes up until Communication Preference is seen.
Put a Check Mark for each desired group.
Be sure to go to the bottom of the page and click on Save.

3.5 Village Life
The Village Life section of the website allows users to view the current and past issues of the community newsletter.
Position your cursor over the Village Life main menu item then position your cursor over the desired archive year and then click the desired issue.
If you position your cursor over the Village Life main menu and then click, the current issue will be presented.

Village Life is Sierra Canyon's Newsletter, but more than that. The first issue was June 2007, and since that time it has become Sierra Canyon's unofficial historical record. It is put together by residents for residents. There is news and photos of events, humor, biographical sketches, and useful information. All the past issues are available.

3.5.1 Village Life Reporters
The Village Life Reporters is a photographic listing of current reporters and editors. There is also contact information about becoming a reporter or if there is an other question.

3.6 Fitness and Health
Position your cursor over Fitness and Health  main menu and then click. There are informational links for Fitness, Health and Diet. There are also a number of exercise videos.

3.7 Classifieds
To access the Classifieds, click on the Classifieds menu appearing on the navigation bar. The most recently posted Classifieds appear at the top of the page. To browse the classifieds, simply scroll through the listings. To find a specific listing, choose a category and/or enter your search criteria into the space provided, then click Search. To view the full text of any classified, click the More button appearing to the right of each listing.

3.7.1 Submit A Classified
Classifieds are free for residents of Sierra Canyon. The maximum period is 60 days, but they can be renewed. The reason for the 60 day limit is that often when the classified ad is finished, no notice is given. This way the classified ad will be removed automatically after 60 days. The Classifieds are for non-commercial items. There is a section for Resident Ads (there is a nominal fee), if someone has a home business or product they would like to publicize.
A classified ad can be submitted by positioning your cursor over Classifieds on the main menu and then position your cursor over Submit A Classified and click. A form will come up as seen below.

Fill in the required information, which is indicated by a *, and then click on Submit. Note: An image or file can be added by clicking on the Choose File button. (See the red arrow. )

3.8 Site Ads
The Site Ads section of the website allows users to view information for each website sponsor. Position your cursor over the Site Ads main menu item then click the desired site sponsor from the drop down menu.
These ads help defer the cost of the website. Patronage by Sierra Canyon residents will help make these ads worthwhile for the businesses that pay for them.

This section is for residents who have a home business or product they would like to publicize. There is a nominal fee.

3.9 Contacts
To access Contacts, click on the Contacts menu appearing on the navigation bar. This will bring up a webpage with the most important contacts for Sierra Canyon residents.

3.9.1 Ask A Manager
The purpose of Ask A Manager is to offer another means of communication for the residents of Sierra Canyon with the  Executive Director, Mike Aguilar. It is for residents who have a question, suggestion or comment, and it replaces the old Suggestion Box. The submitted form goes directly to Mike and it is confidential. A copy of the form appears below.

3.9.2 Email Webmaster
This form is used to report broken links, out of date or inaccurate information. It is also used to report any difficulty in signing in to SierraCanyonReno.com. It is a good form to use for suggestions, comments and/or questions.
The Webmaster is a group of residents who have experience with computers, the internet and other digital items like digital cameras. Their prime function is to maintain the SierraCanyonReno.com, however if there are questions about other digital items, they are welcome to.
Do not be afraid to ask for help.

A neighborhood watch is an organized group of citizens devoted to crime and vandalism prevention. Residents formed a group to watch over their Villages and to look out for any suspicious activity in their areas. 4.1 Edit Profile

User’s can edit their profile by clicking My Profile from the Top Menu, found in the upper-right corner of the site.

To edit or add information click the appropriate Edit or Add button. Once the information is updated click the Save button.

4.2 Sign Out
When finished with the website, just click Sign Out. If you forget, or close down without signing out, there is no penalty.

4.3 Search the Website
User’s can search the website by entering the search text (ex. Hiking) into the search field, found in the upper-right corner of the website and then clicking the search icon. The search icon appears as a magnifying glass. (See the red arrow below.)The search results are then displayed.

5.0 Site Map
The Site Map can be found at the bottom of most web pages, for example Home, My Profile, Calendar, and many others. It is on the right hand side of the line just above the very bottom line. The Site Map can be very useful in finding a web page that you can not remember where it was.

The Site Map contains a listing of all currently available pages within your Web Site. The links are organized into categories that correlate to the major items on the navigation bar. To visit a page shown on the Site Map, simply click on the link for that page.

The links that appear on the Site Map at any given time are displayed based on the permission level of the account currently signed in. For example, if you are visiting the site as a Guest, the Site Map will only show links to Web pages that Guests are permitted to view. If you sign onto the site with a higher permission level such as a Resident, the Site Map will be updated to show links to all pages that Residents are permitted to view. If you do not log in, the Site Map will default to showing only pages that Guests are permitted to view. The resident view is shown below.
